Outreach, Church Team Visit, Glasses & News Radio
It has been a busy spring this year!! In March, we had Hands of Hope come to Liberia for a surgical/medical outreach. We saw hundreds of patients! Many were able to receive cataract surgery and minor general surgeries.
After the outreach, we went to the States for a few weeks. We visited with supporters and collected eye glasses for Liberia.
New Hope Christian Church Team
The beginning of May, a team from New Hope Christian Church came for 12 days. They were a HUGE blessing to us! They hooked up our generator and it runs beautifully.
They strengthened the rope holding our water pump in the well. The original one was a nylon rope that was beginning to fray after only one year. They brought a stainless-steel wire from the USA to better support the pump.
They fixed our lawn mower, repositioned some kitchen cabinets and worked on the solar system at Waterfield Clinic!
On their first Sunday in Kakata, Pastor Jon preached at Zion Christian Fellowship. The church also had a Leadership Conference that Pastor Jon taught at for three sessions. The second Sunday, we took them to Life Church of Borlorlah. It is in a very rural area north of Kakata. They were received warmly, and it was a wonderful time of fellowship.
We appreciate their visit and look forward to when they can come back.
Glasses, Glasses, Glasses
While we were in the United States, we asked several people for eye glass donations. There are only two optical shops that we know of and they are both located 35 miles away in Monrovia. Most of our patients cannot afford new eyeglass prescriptions, so the donated ones are a real blessing. They may not be exactly what they need, but if the prescription is close enough, they are thrilled.
THANK YOU New Hope Christian Church, Bread of Life Fellowship, Stevensburg Baptist Church, LifePoint Church and neighbors of Celebrate 55+ community!!! We received so many glasses, we had to ship them! The team also brought a huge suitcase full of glasses.
News Update
On May 6th, we started going to Radio Kakata 7:00 am-8:00 am. We are now on the radio three hours a day. The team from New Hope Christian Church was able to join us several times. Our radio program is called GRACE TO LIBERIA.
There are three volunteers with GRACE TO LIBERIA. They go out to the communities of Kakata and share the Gospel through the Jesus Movie and other Christian movies. There are very few TVs in Kakata, so many come out to see the movie. We want to add another volunteer so that they could go out in teams of two. New Hope Christian Church generously donated an evangelism backpack which includes screen, projector, speaker, and the Jesus Movie in nine of the Liberian languages. We are currently requesting a motor bike to accommodate their travel. The cost is $850.
