What Are You Doing in Liberia?!
Big Dreams
We have been living in Liberia for 43 months now. When we first left our family, friends, and the United States to go on the journey God had prepared for us, we were very excited. We had big plans of all the different ways we wanted to serve the people of Liberia. It was like Christmas shopping.
We originally wanted to build our own clinic, but thankfully the Lord ties us to to Dr. Hena and we volunteered at her clinic. We wanted to buy some kind of mobile clinic vehicle to help those in the bush. We wanted to go on the radio, preach in churches, have Bible studies, show the Jesus Film and evangelize. Our hearts were bigger than the reality of our dreams.
In the beginning we were working seven days a week with a ministry and building our permanent home. It was exhausting and yet exhilarating! Our regional Director insisted that we take some time off each week, to have a day of rest. This is an important reminder for you reading this as well!
The Reality
Now, 3+ years into the ministry, we have streamlined our commitments. The radio ministry is the main focus of what we do in Liberia. We are on the air 7-8 am and 10-11 pm (Caleb, Pastors Dennis and Kollie) and at 7-8 pm, Monika reads the Bible. The Kpelle Pastors: Konnah, Giddings and Malley teach two hours Tuesday nights and Wednesday mornings. Through radio, we are reaching people quicker and farther than would have been possible by other traditional means.
We have added Bible study days. The Friday Bible study is still going strong. We have added another location on Thursdays and we teach at Kakata City Prison.
A proprietor of a school heard us on the radio and asked us to lead their Chapel service on Fridays. The school is from Pre-K to 9th grade.
We have since left volunteering at the clinic as the licensing in Liberia has become too expensive.
They have a great staff there that can meet the needs of the local people. They have recently added an Ophthalmologist, who can treat patients more extensively than I am allowed. We are grateful to the Lord in connecting us with Dr. Hena and the time we had working alongside of her.
The Grace to Liberia movie team has expanded with two groups going out. In the dry season they are very active and in the rainy season it will be “weather permitting.” The Jesus Film is mostly shown outdoors in the communities, but occasionally a church will invite them for a showing.
We thank the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ for linking us with faithful partners who are making the work possible in Liberia.

Prayer Request
We would like to finish the second floor of the guest house, which will be an open space for meetings and a school. Our intermediate goal is to have a Bible school for lay pastors by next year. Please continue to pray for the ministry as we pray for you. We are all here to encourage each other!
Praise Report
The first floor of the guest house is finished!! Our first guests will be two New International interns that will stay with us for 10 weeks. We thank God for the opportunity to host guests, volunteers, and missionaries as they serve the people of Liberia. Maybe you are next!
